And it was even more pleasurable tonight because we all sat, talked, partook of pizza, perfectly prepared angel food cake piled with plump strawberries, and peach pie with premium ice cream! We eventually proceeded with the Bible study 40 minutes late, and the pastor was alliterating with P's, so everything proceeded with P's. Paul (not Saul because we preferred P's) Partook of Protein and took care of his Physical self (9:19a). Pursued fellowship (yeah, a bit of a stretch v.19b). Preached and Proclaimed (v. 20 depending on your translation) Perplexed, Proved, and Persuaded (v. 21-22)
And we used every other P word we could think of! And then we all sat around and talked about a plethora of things, from Mormons to school buses to houses to kids to pizza to the Mafia to creation/evolution to homeschooling to the Supreme Court............ It proved to be a perfectly pleasurable evening!
There was preciously good 'iron sharpening iron' proceeding, but primarily it was a period of great fellowship and encouragement with each other.

A mutated Eminent Domain on steroids
I don't normally post things from the news, I figure you can read the news yourself. This particular piece of news was a bit too much to pass up though! And I hadn't heard anything about it on any of the other lawyer blogs! Shame on y'all!
The US Supreme Court just ruled that the government (state, city, town) can force you to sell your house for them to use in PRIVATE DEVELOPMENT! Eminent Domain in the 5th amendment gives government the right to forcibly buy your property for PUBLIC purposes. A town in Connecticut forced a family to sell their property so that a private hotel could be built there!
http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/06/23/scotus.property.
ap/index.html
Of course the town argued that even though the purchase was going to be sold off for private use, that there was public benefit: nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation. It doesn't say "public benefit" peoples!
Unfortunately I am incapable of forcing the Supreme Court to rule as I would like. I'm afraid the nation just took another jump toward socialism/communism. And the people shrugged.

Arcs and Bras
"What," you gasp! "That's crass!" And you are absolutely right!
Not only that, but a llama is the same size as two seals, and a good dog has fangs:
Boys and Girls are silly, but girls are more silly because there are several ways they can be silly:
And let's not forget the letter Q. Even though it isn't in this puzzle, find out what it would be if it were in the puzzle! Hint: it's bigger than N
Finally, even though it is too, too, too, too hot, let's do some multiplication.
Let me know if you solved them! Or, if you get stuck on any, reply and I'll give a hint or two.

Aaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!
I am a living Dilbert at times!! We're coming up on deadline time and I just got the entire storyline changed on me. So what I've been working on the last two weeks will be recycled into something totally different. Not as in a pop can being recycled into a beer can. This is more like a pop can into an airplane turbine. I can still use the basic stuff, but it gets DRASTICALLY changed in form. Not just little bit of code rewriting - the whole concept is changed!!!
Ack!! Back to the drawing board.

From Newbie to Experienced in One Day!
I'm an official clogger now with two performances under my belt!! Saturday we had two performances and I was able to participate in both of them - Rocky Top and Stars and Stripes Forever. Only a few of the regulars were available to perform, so the call was sent out asking for more volunteers. It was the first time for both Phillip and myself, and only the third and fourth times for two others. Fortunately I did Rocky Top first and got any jitters out of the way before I got to Stars and Stripes which I'm not as confident in doing. I also switched lines on Stars and Stripes, which wasn't a problem, but anything out of the ordinary on my first performances was making me nervous. Two small bobbles was my total for the day though.
Jeremiah came with me and helped to sell wristbands, apparently we sold a bunch, and he latched on immediately to Phillip and later onto his little sister. Jer and I went swimming, and the pool had installed a couple little fountains in the kids area which Jeremiah enjoyed to no end! He did three laps, and I did three. I would carry him along while he kicked and waved his hands the whole length of the pool. Then I would set him up on the side and he would run along side while I swam back. We had a blast!! The only bummer: Jeremiah was getting close to his bedtime by the time the second clogging performance was done, so we skipped the free ice cream afterwards. I got a great blow-by-blow of how nice it was. Thanks ... I think. ;^D
Church was a lot of fun today. Topping off the week of VBS was a service to which we invited all the kids and parents. We sang all the songs we had sung at VBS, learned in condensed format what the lessons had been about, had a news broadcast from Channel 6 1/2 News, and had a slide show. One part that was a touch on the embarrassing side, though also quite flattering, was that during the News broadcast they interviewed the kids and asked them what they liked best. Every single one said GAMES! Usually with some elaboration on how Mr. Jesse was wrapped up in TP, or how we had an epic battle armed with pool noodles.
My jello cake was a success, thanks to Kevin for telling me how to make it, and the food was great. Jeremiah was anxious to play with a 'fire truck' which was actually supposed to be a safari truck that happened to be painted red, so he was squirming around a bit during service. Towards the end of the meal, a bunch of the kids were playing tag, and Jeremiah happily ran along after them around and around the room. He dropped like a rock once he went down for his nap. :^)
Back to a more normal routine for me now I guess. Oh well. I guess I've got more than enough to keep me busy.

Whack! Whack! Whack! Whack!
Get a dozen pool noodles. Add in a dozen kids. Stir ferociously. What comes out? Last evening at VBS!!!
I got my stuffing whacked out of me last night after VBS by a dozen kids with pool noodles! For at least 20 minutes we all ran around whacking each other. Or more precisely, they all whacked at me. Kevin started out on my side but was eventually overwhelmed and sent skidding off to the side by a stiff whack to the ear. I endeavored to defend myself with a pool noodle - two when I could grab another one from one of the kids - against a raging horde that would have sent Genghis Kahn packing. I was eventually beaten into submission, but I am proud to say I gave a good account of myself!
I gave the pastor's wife a call and suggested that the noodles be left at her house today. ;^)

Sometimes all you can say is God Is So Cool!
It doesn't take much at times, so I feel a bit odd mentioning it now and having skipped it at times when God has been much cooler. But I shouldn't miss an opportunity, even if it means I'm not completely consistent.
· We finished solving a real bear of a problem today!
· I got some pics printed off in spite of a snag.
· I got to pay for lunch! (that IS a good thing to me)
· I locked myself out of work and thus my car and without a phone, but then hacked the lock in ten seconds! (Somewhat worrying, but VERY FUN!)
· Weather looked a touch threatening at one point, but cleared up perfectly!
· Dinner was made for all the workers at VBS! THANK YOU!
· Games went really well at VBS - I wrapped a bunch of kids heads up in toilet paper!
· Said kids wrapped me up entirely in TP! There were numerous pictures taken, I'll get some posted somehow.
· Chased and was chased by said kids for 30 minutes - LOTSA FUN!
· Took another very pleasant walk in a beautiful evening.
All in all, I'm still floating on air! It may not sound like spectacular types of stuff, but whatever it is, I'm feeling REALLY good, and God is most definitely Totally Cosmic!

VBS
Well, so far, VBS is going very well - no emergencies, lots of kids, everything is staying in one piece, and the games are going fairly well. We have a Safari/Serengeti theme going, and we've been bringing in "zebras" and "lions" so far, and we've got some more animals on the way. The "zebras" were miniature horses painted black with white stripes. The "lion" was a little tan dog with a mane stuck on. The dog had been in an accident and had to have one of its legs amputated, so it was a miniature, three-legged lion that barked!
One of the really fun things, is that we have a small swimming pool of "Midianites" - m&ms. There are over 13000 m&ms, which were used the first day, as the Midianites that Gideon routed. The Bible says there were 135,000 Midianites and 300 Israelites. We went with 13,500 m&ms and 30 skittles. We workers have been snacking on the Midianites, so there were probably a few less than 13,500, but oh well. The kids get another cup of Midianites if they bring a friend, as does the friend.
I'm doing games, and so far so good. I'm ready to start tossing them into their lines instead of trying to get them to line up on their own. But still, once they start playing, they're pretty good.
It's been really lovely weather so far, and afterwards yesterday I took a little walk, talked, watched fireflies, and petted kittens.
I also got a book from C called "Girl Meets God". It's a memoir of a jewish woman who came to be a Christian, and it's really interesting, and despite the title it's not aimed at women. C said that the publicist had changed the name from what the author had first thought because 80% of books are bought by women, so even though the book isn't exclusively for women, the title sounds like it.

MIRCO!!!!!
I'm ready to strangle him!!! He just loves to talk and talk and talk and talk! We're going on an hour and a half so far, and I've finally stopped even bothering to pretend to take notes for the meeting. John stopped a while ago. He will spend ten minutes developing some sort of weird analogy to what he's talking about. I used to interrupt him and get him back on track, but now, it's gotten to the point I'm not even going to bother. I'll just work and let him talk. He's a nice guy and usually I enjoy him, but now he's driving me nuts!
Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!

It's been a REALLY long time
Just got back in and I thought I would toss out a quickie. I actually wasn't alone tonight (miracle of miracles) when I went to see a movie! I can't remember the last time I didn't go to a movie by myself! Sad, I realize, but true. Usually, if I see a movie it's by myself. I'm not sure, but I think the last movie I went with other people to see was The Two Towers with my family.
This was an awesome movie too!! Mr. and Mrs. Smith is two assassins that get married, not knowing that the other is also an assassin. They work for rival/enemy groups, so of course they have to find out about each other. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie star, and they are supposed to be two of the hottest actors around. Brad, I can see, is a good looking guy, but I've never really gotten Angelina. But regardless, they work really well off each other, and if the movie has a few holes (all right, all right. A LOT of small holes and a couple downright impossibilities) it is more than made up for by the funny parts. A lightweight movie, but definitely a fun movie. Since it had the big named actress, of course they had to have the prerequisite skimpy clothing scenes, but as far as skin goes, I've seen some PG movies that rival it. (that's really not a good thing) It also had a bit of swearing, but again, for a PG-13 movie it wasn't too bad. But what swearing was there, was completely extraneous: could have been cut out completely and the result would have sounded much smoother.
Lots of action (impossible in parts), lots of great jokes, and a fun job of acting makes Mr. and Mrs. Smith a blast watch. It's even better when someone's there with you so you have someone to hear all your comments and complaints, and then poke at all the holes in the plot, but ultimately agree that it was still lots of fun!

Who's ya daddy!
Happy Fathers Day to me and all the other fathers out there!
This has been a good weekend, sort of. Starting Friday night was great. Even though C's plane came in at 12:30, and by the time we got back to the college it was after 1:00 in the morning, and we had both agreed that we were tired and ready to crash — despite all that, we still talked until after 2:00 in the morning. :^P Some people just don't use the sense God gave them! It was a wonderful evening though. Especially since I was able to sleep in.
Got Jeremiah and headed over to the craft show. David, Dad and Katie had already set up and were manning the booth, though it was slow enough that Katie, Dad, Jeremiah and I was walking around. The COOLEST booth there was the Army National Guard booth! They had a portable climbing wall! David, Katie and I all climbed it and I think Jeremiah was suitably impressed. The booth also had a PT Challenge where you could win a t-shirt or two. All you had to do was either 45 push-ups or 50 sit-ups and you got a free t-shirt. Girls had to do 25 push-ups or 50 sit-ups. Dad, Katie and I all did the push-ups, and even though Katie stopped at 25, I think she could have done the 45 push-ups. When dad did them, we had a good sized group watching, and he got lots of cheering on and applause when he finished them!!! 45 push-ups! Pretty good for a 55 year old guy who hasn't been working out!!!!! Then Katie and I did the sit-ups. Actually, Katie did all 50 sit-ups and I tanked out at 34. Both Katie and I were doing them a bit differently than the Guard guys were doing them. They were flying through them, and Katie and I were doing them more slowly and controlled. When they just fell back, they were giving their abs a rest, so I think that Katie and I were probably as good at sit-ups as the guard guys, but we weren't doing them as intelligently. But I still had to stop at 34 - embarrassing!! Katie got the second t-shirt, and they gave me one too even though I hadn't completed the sit-ups.
They had an old sailing boat that people could walk around, and Jeremiah thoroughly enjoyed that! The show was REALLY slow, so after David took his turn walking around, the rest of us headed back to the motel and put Jeremiah down for his nap. Then I went back and spelled David. Oh, and we were next to a lady who lives in the Carribbeans somewhere and was selling toe-rings. (did very well at this show I think) David got a toe-ring!!! I haven't seen it, but apparently he got one to match a thumb ring he got somewhere. It has a bunch of footprints going around it and he said that one of the toe rings matched it! I SO want to see David wearing a toe ring! (I have a suspicion that she might have given it to David for free)
The show was VERY slow, and instead of sitting at it for another day, Dad and David packed up this morning and they all headed back home. I did the horses and took Jer to church, which had a very good Fathers Day message! We're all set for VBS that starts tomorrow (I'm in charge of games!) and we're looking forward to this, a lot! I would imagine that some are looking forward to it being done as much as to the VBS itself.
Jeremiah's asleep; I think he's still a bit extra worn out from being outside all day running around at the craft show. Katie and Dad kept him pretty active too. And dad told him stories to put him to sleep, all about Jeremiah driving a fire engine and putting out a fire, and then driving a train, and then flying a plane all the way back home to daddy. I didn't get to hear it, but it sounded great.
I just got a call from a friend telling me about someone here in Round Hill that does websites, and might have some extra work that he wants someone to do. I'm going to check in with him sometime next week. Might be nice.

Late night movie review
Just watched Hitch and thought I'd toss up a movie review just for anyone who might feel like watching it. It's a very funny, relatively clean movie. I've never handled embarrassing humor well, and this one had it's fill, so I had to turn away a lot because I couldn't bare to see some of the embarrassing messes the actors got into. It really was a riot of laughs though!
Hitch is the date doctor that helps guys avoid those really big snafus (pay attention to what she's saying so you can make intelligent conversation. don't try to dance- just do the sway side-to-side deal and you won't embarrass yourself, etc.) Of course Hitch starts falling for someone, and all sorts of troubles ensue from there. Then at the end Hitch has to try to say and do all the right stuff on his own to win back the girl, and flubs it terribly - doing every "DO NOT DO" in the book. He gets the girl in the end though!
Oh well, I'm heading out to pick up C now. She's getting back from the conference and will be WAY too tired to be driving. I haven't exactly been getting my 8 hours, but I'm still pretty cogent. See y'all later!

Not too shabby
At least not according to my brother. My three months of development on this game is finally winding toward the end of the project, and I finally got around to letting David see the product as it is so far. A couple things weren't working and he reminded me of a couple bugs in it. Whenever I was testing it, I knew about the bugs, but just automatically avoided them, and eventually forgot about them. Having a new person look at the product reminds me of so much that I've glossed over!
Oh well. It's coming along. It's just that the last couple weeks have been really annoying for me because I'm depending on the progress of another portion to be completed so I can start the final version. Until that gets done, no more big things can be done to the game. We're working on 2nd and 3rd tier stuff. It needs done, but it's not as necessary to the project. And we're coming up to deadline time!
Different topic - I don't know if I mentioned how Katie did at debate nationals. She made it into outrounds, but was knocked out by the team that eventually came in second. So she's at least 32nd best in the country! Wahooo!
That team was using a shotgun/speed reading style of debate that according to scuttlebutt will be highly discouraged next year. On the negative side, it throws up as many arguments as quickly as possible against the case, it gives little to no support for the arguments, and then depends on the multitude of objections to convince the judge or depends on the affirmative team not being able to cover all the objections. Katie kept track of the arguments, and when it was her turn to speak she had 23 arguments to counter in five minutes! Less than 15 seconds per argument!!!
Apparently the judges that were NCFCA alumni were more receptive to this style than the adult judges. Having debated so much, I guess they didn't give as much weight to the 'real life' effectiveness as they did to the technical rules of debate. NCFCA is working on developing good communicators and alert adults. Speed reading through dozens of arguments doesn't develop those traits, and I hope they can effectively discourage the practice. Good for NCFCA!
Oh, and next year's debate topic is "Resolved the United States should significantly change laws regarding medical malpractice suits in the U.S." Or something close to that. Katie won't be debating though as this was her last year. She went out with a bang though!!!

Feeling stormy
Last night I had gotten home from clogging in an embarrassing state of exhaustion because of the warm night mixed with especially grueling clogging classes. I did the horses (landlady was away), took a shower, and crawled directly into bed; and as I sprawled on the covers, I noticed a few flashes lighting up the sky. I decided to head outside for a couple minutes to see how far off the storm was. I ended up grabbing a chair and settling down out on the lawn to watch the lightning storm.
It is such a wonderful feeling to feel the heavy sort of air mixed in with the growing, cool breezes that precedes a summer thunderstorm. It was many miles off, because I could only rarely hear the faint growl of thunder, and the sky above me was perfectly clear, giving a crystalline view of the starts and moon. On the horizon, piled mountains of clouds just barely shown by the moon's light. Suddenly, the clouds would be thrown into start outlines by flashes of lightning or lit by multihued glows from within. More rarely, but far more spectacularly, a sky-rending chain of lightning would light up the sky for several seconds, covering half the horizon, and then disappear leaving vivid outlines glowing to my eyes.
For almost an hour I sat and watched the natural fireworks display. God's power and majesty are on display constantly in the world, but too rarely do I notice. Enough power was tossed around in that hour to light up New York City for days. All that happened was that a few clouds gave off static sparks. I was reminded of the end of Job - ch. 37 or 38 and on. (or somewhere around there) Where were we when God laid the foundations of the earth, hollowed out the depths, and told the waters of the ocean to stop and go no further? Can we bind the chains of the Pleiades or loose those of Orion? One can do naught else but say, 'I have uttered what I didn't understand and spoke of things too wonderful for me to know. I had heard of you with my ear but now I see you with my eye and I despise myself in dust and ashes.'
(Or something like that, I can't remember precisely)

I don't often get to have absolutely nothing to do at work, but I finally did get to that point on Friday. It was pretty frustrating because really I didn't need to come back from karate camp except for a couple hours worth of work. The rest of it could have waited for Friday. As it was, I caught up and finished everything off by Thursday evening, and was spinning my wheels on Friday. So laundry and stuff got done during a very long lunch on Friday.
Oh well, the weekend was good with a trip to a farm with Jeremiah. We petted cows and goats, Jer wouldn't even try milking the cow, but he played in the corn crib (I'll be digging corn kernels out of my couch for weeks, I'm sure) played with some tractors and stuff. He had a good time, but I didn't stay much more than an hour or two because it was pretty hot and humid. Of course when we got home and he started his nap, he insisted on a blanket, so maybe he isn't as bothered by the heat as some others. I'm used to people being bothered by the heat, so I'm always watching out for Jer, but it looks like he's going to take after me and revel in the heat. It felt REALLY good to me.
We had a great time at church Sunday too. The pastor has been doing a series on the Holy Spirit, and I suspect that he has a plan that he keeps trying to follow, but the parts of the service that I can tell has a lot of planning in them aren't nearly as interesting/beneficial/inspiring as the parts where I can tell he's going off on his own rabbit trail. Yesterday he invited anyone who had questions or wanted prayer to come over to his house for more, and that was a really good time. I got to see a lot more of the AoG doctrine laid out on the subject of the HS, Gifts, Baptisms, etc. Then because, I think, Ray and Carol picture me as a single guy living off fast food and cold cereal, they insisted that I have a plate of veal parmesan and pasta. It was absolutely delicious and I certainly didn't turn it down, though I did eat a frozen pizza after I got home. I was still a bit peckish. After that, Ray and I talked for another hour and a half, largely on reformed theology and comparisons with charismatic views on the same verses/topics.
He was of the opinion that a lot of the reformed doctrine, or at least the supports of the doctrines came from creeds, rather than directly from scripture. That a lot of the details of reformed theology came from extrapolating and reasoning from the 5 Points, rather than on the Bible. From the discussions, I've had I can see some of his point - the 5 Points themselves are usually argued pretty well from scripture, but the ramifications are based on the 5 Points, and usually not defended with scriptures. Anyway, it was an awesome night.
And today's meeting is making up for it. Three hours long, and still we're just in a break time. Don's not here to make sure that no one follows rabbit trails. So, everyone's been following every rabbit trail they can think of. Oh well, I've only nodded off two or three times.

So much to write!!
Oh wow! I have so much to put down, and so much of it is great news that I really hate to put it all in one post because it'll either get abbreviated too much or it will be too long and parts will be ignored. I guess I'll go in a rough order of importance, though not necessarily of interest.
First would be a praise that so many blessings from God have been and are being poured out. My mom is feeling a little bit better physically, but much better mentally and spiritually. Some friends have stopped over, or called, or made a dinner, and that has really been a blessing to raise her spirits. Thankfully a brace is being used on her leg instead of a full cast, so she can take care of itches and doesn't have to worry inordinately about water.
Katie is doing REALLY well!!! Considering that she had been in a car accident, receiving a concussion, only a few days before she went to a national level debate tournament, one would not have expected top-notch performance from her. As it is, she wasn't especially pleased with how well she felt she was doing, but regardless of how she felt about it, it was good enough to get her and her partner into outrounds! GO KATE!!
Thirdly, and this may only be of interest to me and Sensei, but I went to karate camp this weekend and had a great time! God really took care of me while I was there, sending His voice to me exactly when needed. Training was excellent, and I'm going to put in a blow-by-blow at the end of this, so if you aren't interested in the intimacies of karate training, you can skip it. Weather was pretty good, training was up and down, but the 'ups' were REALLY up, and I met and made a lot more friends and acquaintances. The only bad thing that happened was that I forgot my washcloth and soap in one of the women's showers! :^P Thankfully I had a spare washcloth and was able to borrow some soap.
A really great part was Sunday night when several guys and I all sat up really late shooting the breeze, mostly about karate, but we covered family and work and politics and most every other topic a guy could be interested in. A great guys time; definitely awesome! The Porath sons (24 & 27 I think) had a bunch of awesome fun things for classes (especially kids) to do that keep it fun but also have training benefits.
Registration really is an awesome place to work. I got to meet all my friends from before and make new ones - Dov (Israel), Steve, Steve, Steve, Alex, Yulia (Israel), Julia, Kevin, Lois, Nicole, Nicole (Canada), Anna (Christian), Ann, Jeanette, Paul, the Poraths (Canada), Oscar (Ecuador), Krosia (Russia but currently USA), Bruce, Jona (Poland), Jaime (male-Mexico), and Roberto (ex-Mex). There are lots others, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head. And I've nailed down a club in Fairfax where I might be able to train.
What's up with clapping at the end of class?!?!? I think it's meant well but mistaken. It's disrespectful to Japanese sensei, and it really opens the door to potential hard feelings or praise inflation. If you just clap for the really good classes or for just the sichidan-and-up people, you'll very quickly end up with hard or hurt feelings by those who don't get applause at the end of class. If you clap for everyone, it becomes meaningless, and hypocritical. Especially when having a class taught be a Japanese instructor, JUST SIT STILL AND KEEP YOUR HANDS IN SEIZA!!
We had Koyama for three of the trainings I attended from Friday through Tuesday. That was enough; I am finally starting to see the body connections that he makes that keeps him from just flailing, but it is SO different from most other teachers that I just don't enjoy his classes as much as most other teachers. His relax-focus style a good thing to learn, but not as much as I got this camp. Fortunately, Sensei Fields, Woonatai, Takashina and Imura (brought over from Japan just for camp) all gave several awesome classes. Several of the senseis look very unassuming and a couple downright wimpy or frail until you see them effortlessly glide around the fastest punches and kicks of a 30-year-old Yondan. Then your jaw drops. Sensei Imura though even looks the part of a great master. He's short, but looks as dense and hard as an oak, and just has a fierce expression on his face all the time. Even without knowing about his karate skills, I wouldn't want to take him on even considering he is in his sixties. He had us working on a lot of empi-uchi and shuto-uchi drills. Sensei Okazaki of course wore us down with his standard kicking and punching drills, but then surprised EVERYONE and SKIPPED Heian Shodan!!! You would have to know him to realize the miracle of this. Instead we started at Nidan and went up through Tekki Shodan. Then worked heavily on Gankanku and Jitte. He had us do one-steps only using counters from Gankanku or Jitte and then put us back into kata work and then back to one-steps and back to kata. A really terrific class!
The last class on Tuesday that I attended was probably my favorite though - Sensei Fields had us doing sparring drills (what else would he have us do!?!) and even though I was with a barely brown belt woman the whole time, it was still great because she was willing to put everything she had into the drills. So even though her attacks were comparatively slow and a bit sloppier, she more than made up for it with her effort. I've worked with yondans that haven't allowed me to have such a good training! We did basic kizami-zuki and gyaku-zuki, mai-geri and mawashi-geri and blocking drills back and forth, back and forth. Lunging drills for both kizami and gyaku-zuki for distance. Foot switching for timing and balance with mai and mawashi-geri. By the time I was done with that class, my soles felt like I had stuck them on a sander for a couple minutes, and the sides of my feet and toes were bleeding all over her gi. Fortunately it was an old, lightweight gi she had brought to camp because she was ready to throw it away. Her control wasn't so great and combined with lots of energy resulted in a lot of punches hitting me harder than she meant. Unfortunately for me, her power was pretty poor too, so I came away without a bruise. :^(
We even did a lot more running than normal on Tuesday! All week we had been doing longer and longer runs, and by the time Tuesday came around we went about two miles. For those who have been at camp, normally we only go out to the big Camp Green Lane sign or a little bit beyond, circle a bit and go to training. This time we went a good 3/10 of a mile past the sharp bend (which is ~1/2 mile down the road) before Bob whistled for use to stop and let people catch up. We then jogged in place until most had caught up, and then headed back. We got 100 yards back down around the bend when Bob whistled for us to stop again. I'm up with the front five or six guys (and one woman on Tuesday) and I figured we were waiting again. Bob comes up blowing his whistle and yells "Turn it around now! Come on! Pick those knees up! Up to the chest! Come on, pick them up! Move it! Move it!" By the time we did our circles and ran back to the dojo, we had done at least two miles.
OH YEAH IT FELT GOOD!!!
The only thing that really bugs me is that they don't have the guest instructors teaching black belts until Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday! It's incentive for people to stay the whole week instead of just the weekend, but considering that most people have jobs that make it tough to get away for the whole week, it REALLY stinks for those who just can't stay the whole time. As it was, I only had two classes with Sensei Imura, and none with Sensei Ochi!
p.s. That little sentence way up above about me forgetting my washcloth in the women's shower is true! It's just that at the time, it was a men's cabin and I was kicked out to make room for extra women that had shown up. Did I catch anyone with that?

Solved it!
This is another of those posts that programmers might appreciate, but few others.
Torque seems to do its very, very best to keep running, even when it has to ignore stuff that you tell it to do. I didn't realize that, and a small error in my code was going to cause the game to crash. So Torque went and pulled up an old version of the file that had the error and used the old version. That's actually a very nice feature, but it gave me conniptions for a day and a half! Fortunately I had a day and a half to spare.
I tried deleting the troublesome file that wasn't using the changes I had made, and THE PROGRAM STILL WORKED! That seriously weirded me out!
All in all, I spent a good 8 hours trying to figure out what the problem was. Then I gave up and started slowly moving code over to another file. Today I finally was almost done moving everything over, and all of a sudden the NEW FILE started ignoring my changes! Well, that finally gave me the hint that maybe a coding error was causing the whacked file behavior. After that I tracked it down pretty quickly and now it's all fine.
Sigh. I guess God knows what he's doing because these last couple days I've had a day and a half to spare, so no damage was done - just frustration. Technically I would have just been twiddling my thumbs, so maybe it was better this way.

Update to the update
As it turns out, mom will be staying one more night to get some more physical therapy training - how to handle stairs, baths, doors, cars, sitting, standing, etc.
The doctor seemed to be unsure if the plate for the tibia would help or harm future knee surgery. Doc said that if mom were older that there wouldn't be any question about it, but she's young enough that it makes it unclear. (that really made mom's day!)

God does answer prayers!
It looks like mom will be going home tonight! There isn't anything that can be done now that will really affect how the knee will heal. The doctor says that in a few years, mom will probably need a knee replacement because the cartiledge that is damaged usually doesn't regenerate/repair itself very well. We'll trust God to heal the unhealable knee.
The tibia's break will keep mom off her leg for three months and requires crutches, but no surgery is needed! Originally the doc said that a plate would need to be installed to help the bone heal.
Katie is getting checked over by a chiropractor just to be safe, but she and David are still heading out to Nationals! I guess it takes more than a 50 mph car crash to keep Katie from debating. :^D
